Here are a couple of points to consider when starting to use adsense.

Placement - Always make sure to put your ads at the top of pages because most users do not scroll down or just quickly glance through. Blend in your ads with your content after paragraghs or with paragraphs.
Presentation - Blend your ads into your website to keep them from being obvious by not using border and by using a similar background. Make sure your ads are placed where you think people’s eyes will go.
Keywords - Make your ads relevant to your site and content by having keywords in your titles and using bold or strong tags to emphasis your keywords.

Remember to experiment with different placements and ad sizes.
